I had a really good Thanksgiving this year, and I hope you did the same. I was reminded how fortunate I am after spending time with my extended family and good friends.
Now, on to the business at hand, Operation Turkey was a success, here’s a pic of the finished product:
It turned out good!! I’m more than surprised, even the baby liked it.
I wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it would be, and I’m looking forward to baking another one… One day…
So, just in case you are wondering what I did to turn out such a lovely bird, here goes:
First, I got a nice 12-14 lbs free range turkey and washed it off under running water
(Why, I dont know, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.)
Then, while the bird was chilaxing and drying off, I got my brine mixture ready. I decided to brine because I’d heard this was the best way to prevent a dryed out turkey. Since this was my first time doing this, I didn’t want to take any chances.
Here she is, soaking in the brine solution. I added lots of fresh herbs to my solution in an effort to impart some flavor, as well as moisture, during the soak.
After a 12 hour soak, I took her out, rinsed off the brine solution, then rubbed her down with a proprietary blend of secret herbs and spices– I’m willing to divulge my secrets for a nice bottle of wine
I let her sit in the fridge and marinate over night, then I popped her in a nicely warmed oven at 400 degrees and let her cook until the internal temp reached the right number.
Ok, so today while I was chatting with a good friend of mine about her Thanksgiving plans, I got all excited and decided to cook my own turkey this year.
YES!! Me–the lady who has only about 7 dishes, of which 2 are desserts, under her belt.
So after hitting up my friend for some turkey cooking tips and scouring the net for some good turkey prepping tips, I ran out at lunch and procured me a nice looking, free range turkey. Turkey doesn’t have a name yet, but I will enlist the children’s help with that tomorrow.
Turkey should be done Thursday around noonish, but I prep work had to begin tonight. So far, so good. Stay tuned, a full post on my turkey adventures, with pics, is coming.
I hope it turns out edible. But I have a back up plan just in case…
Found out about Wordle through a friend, and decided to play around with one my favorite songs, as though I needed another time wasters. Any guesses as to what song this is??
John Mayer’s new CD, Battle Studies, was waiting for me when I got home–a whole day early.
This is the lone bright spot in my day today. And yes, I am enjoying it right now as I write this. Four songs in, and so far it has an 80′s, easy going feel to it to me. I swear, I expect Phil Collins to pop up and any moment now- LOL.
Been scouting around the net today (wasting time distracting myself from the writing I’m supposed to be doing) and came across some new trailers for New Moon.
Check out Bella going head to head with the wolves.
This one ends with an Edward/Jake faceoff. My wish, for Jacob to tear Edward a new one; but we all know that will never happen.
