Spring Gardening Update

Posted by La-Tessa on Mar 28, 2010 in Random Musings

After a lovely morning at the spa (ah……) I came home and did some tidying around the front flower beds, in prep for the big flower planting push that I know is around the corner (I’m just waiting on the weather to decide if it really wants to be spring or not before I make that investment of money, time, and labor).

Here are a few pics from yesterday’s effort:

Bird feeder

My oldest daugther made a bird feeder at school (don’t ask what all is in there) so I had to hang it in the tree. Now, time will tell if we get any bird visitors.  I’m torn on the whole thing.  I hope they don’t come, because I think I have a better chance at fighting off the dog from messing with my blueberries than the birds.  And you already know how much luck I DIDN’T have at keeping the dog out of the blueberries last year….

tulips1The tulips are coming along.  I’m so excited that most of them acutally took!

Blueberries- 3.27.10I got the blueberries planted.  But this year, I’m keeping them up front until I can be sure the dog will not pull them up.  I don’t want a repeat of last year’s blueberry planting fiasco.

And since the weather was nice, I took a few minutes to trim up my wiley rosemary bush:

Rosemary 1- 3.27.10Before (this thing has a mind of it’s own….)

Rosemary 2- 3.27.10After: see how much better it’s looking.  And I have fresh rosemary to share with everyone.  (This thing STILL has a mind of its own though…. lol)

Next update will hopefully include the results of  my spring planting.  I’m thinking of adding a rose bush, some lillies and I think I need to add a new bush of some sorts…. And since the dog is very dutifully leaving my onions along, I’m doing to get another container going with some red peppers and some orange & yellow bell peppers.  This is going to be a great summer of fresh eating in my house.

John Mayer Concert Recap: 3/19/10

:: WARNING- pardon the semi-squeeing, still giddy from last night,  fangirl moment I am about to have…. I make NO apologies for it  :-)  ::

Ok, last night was a big load of awesomeness, wrapped in over 2 hrs of  uplifting, bootie shaking, straight jamming, soul stirring music.  (<–I did warn you I was letting the fangirl out for a bit)

This was my second time seeing John live in concert, but first time in Memphis.  It was great, but John always puts on a good show. One the the funniest moments of the show was John taking the time out to read some of the signs.  There was one that read “Married Chubby Cougar Needs A Hug” LOL.   His reply was “That’s a lot of self awareness for one sign.”  So he invited the lady up on stage, along with her best friend of 35 years, and gave them both hugs (multiple hugs in fact) and posed for pictures before continuing on with the show.

The setlist

*Heartbreak Warfare*No Such Thing*Crossroads straight jammed this one too!
*Beliefone of my favs
*Perfectly Lonely
*Assassin
*Stop This Train
*Heart of Life
*Ain’t No Sunshine <— because it’s covers like this that you even go to concerts in the first place
*Waiting On The World To Changeanother fav
*VulturesLOVED IT!*Half Of My Heartw/ a little “Walking In Memphis” remixed in
*Why Georgia
*Gravitybrought the house DOWN with this one, in my top 2 fav JM songs

Encore:

*Who Says-- the hubby loved this one
*I’m Gonna Find Another You- “It’s really over…”   Loved it

Of course, the perfect setlist would have include the two songs I wanted to hear, but didnt expect to: In Repair and Bigger Than My Body.  And the two songs I was honestly expecting to hear, but was very surprised he didn’t play, were Edge of Desire and Friends, Lovers, or Nothing.  But all in all, an excellent show.

I finally figured out how to upload the 2 brief (very brief) snippets of video I took at the concert. Here’s a bit from Belief (I really, truely love this song, I love the message behind it) and a slip of him covering Ain’t No Sunshine.  This is all I took, because I am living my life by the 3 x 5 code–meaning some things are better experienced through your own eyes.

The pics aren’t the best, but what can you do?  I was an awesome concert, one you truely had to have experienced for yourself.  Last night just confirmed one thing for me–

John Mayer is a bad man on that guitar baby.  A baaaaad man

On Pins & Needles

acupuntureTo say my stress level has been at an all time high lately is NOT an understatement. And we all know that stress exacerbates any and all dis-ease or sickness you may have going on.

So as I felt my body in a constant state of tension, my temper constantly hovering around a 7 (and that was on a good day) and my drive, excitement & energy for writing decline.  After a brief convo with my friend Mynfel (who’s also taking acupunture right now) I decided it was time for me to go back to the acupuncturist.

I originally started acupuncture treatments about 5 yrs ago, to help me deal with & eliminate pain associated with RA. Once I got better, I stopped going–it was very difficult to fit the treatments into my schedule at the time,  but I always knew that this was a practice I would like to keep as part of my health plan.

So after getting recommended to the same place by two separate people, last week I had my first acupuncture treatment in well over 5 years.  Even though I’d been though it before, I was still a little nervous.  But the results speak for themselves, even a week later.

While I didn’t get a full needle count, here’s what I can best estimate:

         *Head-2
         *Ear-5
         *Arm-2
         *Abdomen-3
         *Legs- @4
         *Feet- @3

So roughly 19  needles, a little aromatherapy & an hour later, I left the office feeling relaxed and lighter in spirit.  Now, the relaxation is more than likely a by-product of the nap I took during my session. :-)

So session 1 was a win!  I’ll be having weekly sessions for a while, as I work to get my body back in harmony.  Then I hope to go down to about once a month as part of my overall health plan.

Happy Birthday to Me

Posted by La-Tessa on Mar 14, 2010 in Random Musings

Gift bagIt’s been a while since I’ve posted. I have super busy with work (several pressing deadlines, and I mean SEVERAL, all at once), so that means my writing and blog updates have to suffer.

But, I wanted to pop in quickly and post a pic of the best birthday gift I think I’ve ever recieved:

So I woke up the morning of my birthday to the prettiest wrapped gift I think my hubby has ever given me.  So I hurriedly tore open the bag, and feasted my eyes upon the prettiest, bestest, most nicest gift I think i’ve ever recieved (well, besides my iPhone that is.)

Check out the newest addition to my cube at work:

Keurig

Just beautiful, ain’t it?  :-)
