Congrats to the Memphis Grizzlies for making it to the 2nd round of the NBA playoffs in this, their historic 10th season here in the Bluff City!!!! We knocked off the #1 seed to advance–a feat which has only happened twice now in the NBA’s 7 game playoff era.
And last night I had the pleasure of being in attendance for the history making, game #6 of the Memphis Grizzles/ San Antonio Spurs playoff series. I’ve been to many Grizzlies games, not none with an atmosphere like this. It was good times all around, saw a great game, ran into several friends, and made some new ones!
Come on Memphis, stand up!!! If you got your Growl Towel, wave it!
This March, I decided I wanted to to take some professional photos as a birthday gift to myself. I don’t have any pictures of me that are less than 10 years old. Ridiculous, I know, but I don’t like taking pictures and try to get out of taking them whenever I can. (Though you probably can’t tell it from all my FaceBook pics, but I promised I was coerced into 80% of them-lol).
Why am I like this? Who knows, I’ve just never felt I was particularly photogenic so I don’t usually rush towards the camara. But being that I turned 36 years young this year, I decided I wanted to have a nice set of photos of myself. So I got my friend, photographerMaria Benton, to do a photoshoot. Just let me tell you, that was an adventure. I don’t think anyone would ever call me timid by any means, but I really am shy in front of camaras; especially when I’m the focal point. But Maria’s a professional and is VERY patient (I can’t stress the patient part enough-lol). The photoshoot shoot went very smoothly and I’m happy with the results.
We’re still in the finalization phase, but here’s a peek at how the session went.
(and the hundreds of other people in attendence, but that’s not really the point of what’s sure to be a flaming fangirl post, so I digress…)
So, my friend & I (whom I convinced to road trip with me) drove over to Little Rock, AR on Monday for theDavid Garrett concert. It was both of our first time attending one of his concerts and we were NOT dissappointed. David is a very talented musician and it showed in his performance Monday night. We had primo seats (3rd row, aisle- WOOT!), what I like to call “prime rushing the stage seats”. But, we decided we didn’t want to get arrested, so we behaved.
Now, time for the highlights of the evening… Well, the entire night was a highlight, especially dinner afterwards, but I promised David I wouldn’t talk about that…
Just kidding Mynfel, cos I know you’d drive down here and strangle me over that piece of innuendo
Now, on to the night. Dave & co played an impressive 21 songs:
Kashmir <– totally rocked, loved it Beethoven’s 5th <– another excellent, high energy song to get it going Live & Let Die
80′s Anthem
Smells Like Teen Spirit– think I was the only one in the audience that knew the words. Well, as much as one can know the words to this song- lol Csardas- Gypsy Dance- my FAV song he covers. I got so excited hearing it, that I forgot I could video with my phone. So I only got a small piece of it here.
November Rain
Smooth Criminal
Beautiful Air<–LOVED this, truly a beautiful song
Walk This Way
Child’s Anthem
Rodrigo Pirates of the Caribbean
Zorba’s Dance
Rock Symphony
A Led Zepplin song– cannot remember the title
Another song I didn’t get the title of Master of Puppets
I’ll Stand By You
Rocking All Over the World Encore: Hey Jude
Two songs that didn’t make the playlist, but would’ve made the night perfect are Claire du Lune and O mio Babbino Caro, but excellent show none the less.
After the concert, we were hanging back to let the theater clear when Marcus Wolf came out. I got the chance to meet him (he’s very nice) and chat a bit. (Woohoo) He also gave me a couple of his custom guitar picks, so ROCK ON!
After this, we headed over to the Meet & Greet were we got the chance to talk to David up close, take some pics, and get some autographs. I had a great time, but mostly all of my pics came out fuzzy. AND I don’t think I was looking at the professional photographer when she took our pic (because (1) I didn’t know she was over there taking pics & (2) she didn’t try to get my attention…)
But all in all, a good night.
Oh, here’s a pic of a little of the swag I brought back: an autographed M&G ticket (I also got a poster and cd signed) and the guitar picks from Marcus Wolf (I love his logo by the way)
Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a day set aside to remember and honor Dr. King’s legacy. But I woke up with this on my mind this morning: ”What does this mean to you and what will do you about it?”
Dr. King is widely known as a leader of the African American civil rights movement. But he also heavily championed helping out our fellow man. It was Dr. King who said
“Life’s most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”
While racism and inequality still exists today–and there are still major strides to be made in that arena–I believe the Dr. King holiday has become regarded as a day for service. A day for giving back to your community and fellow man.
I started as new job a few months ago and was therefore unable to take off today, but I told myself last year that each MLK holiday I would take off work and the kids and I would visit the Civil Rights Museum then we’d do a service project together. This year I was not able to do that today, but I will postpone it for later this month. I think my children will enjoy the history lesson, and get a wake up call as to how life was just a few decades ago.
Dr. King also said “ The quality, not the longevity, of one’s life is what is important.” And though he died at the age of 39, he left the imprint of his strong legacy upon the world. I remembered him today for what he stood for and his dedication to his goals of equality and equal rights for all.
So, I ask you, what does MLK Day mean to you? And what, if anything, did you do about it?
I was trolling the net today and came across this video posted (over on The YBF) of the Muppets (yes, the Muppets!) straight rocking Monster by Kanye West.
