My night with David

Posted by La-Tessa on Feb 9, 2011 in Random Musings, Virutal Concerts

(and the hundreds of other people in attendence, but that’s not really the point of what’s sure to be a flaming fangirl post, so I digress…)

So, my friend & I (whom I convinced to road trip with me) drove over to Little Rock, AR on Monday for the David Garrett concert.  It was both of our first time attending one of his concerts and we were NOT dissappointed.  David is a very talented musician and it showed in his performance Monday night.  We had primo seats (3rd row, aisle- WOOT!), what I like to call “prime rushing the stage seats”.   But, we decided we didn’t want to get arrested, so we behaved.

Now, time for the highlights of the evening… Well, the entire night was a highlight, especially dinner afterwards, but I promised David I wouldn’t talk about that…

Just kidding  Mynfel, cos I know you’d drive down here and strangle me over that piece of innuendo :-D

Now,  on to the night.  Dave & co played an impressive 21 songs:

Kashmir <– totally rocked, loved it
Beethoven’s 5th <– another excellent, high energy song to get it going
Live & Let Die
80′s Anthem
Smells Like Teen Spirit
–  think I was the only one in the audience that knew the words.   Well, as much as one can know the words to this song- lol
Csardas- Gypsy Dance- my FAV song he covers. I got so excited hearing it, that I forgot I could video with my phone.  So I only got a small piece of it here.

November Rain
Smooth Criminal
Beautiful Air
<–LOVED this, truly a beautiful song

Walk This Way
Child’s Anthem
Rodrigo

Pirates of the Caribbean
Zorba’s Dance
Rock Symphony
A Led Zepplin song
– cannot remember the title
Another song I didn’t get the title of
Master of Puppets
I’ll Stand By You
Rocking All Over the World
Encore: Hey Jude

Two songs that didn’t make the playlist, but would’ve  made  the night perfect are Claire du Lune and O mio Babbino Caro, but excellent show none the less.

After the concert, we were hanging back to let the theater clear  when Marcus Wolf came out.  I got the chance to meet him (he’s very nice) and chat a bit. (Woohoo)  He also gave me a couple of his custom guitar picks, so ROCK ON!

After this, we headed over to the  Meet & Greet were we got the chance to talk to David up close, take some pics, and get some autographs.  I had a great time, but mostly all of my pics came out fuzzy.  AND I don’t think I was looking at the professional photographer when she took our pic (because (1) I didn’t know she was over there taking pics & (2) she didn’t try to get my attention…)

But all in all, a good night.

Oh,  here’s a pic of  a little of the  swag I brought back: an autographed M&G ticket (I also got a poster and cd signed) and the guitar picks from Marcus Wolf (I love his logo by the way)

I was trolling the net today  and came across this video posted (over on The YBF) of the Muppets (yes, the Muppets!) straight  rocking Monster by Kanye West.

Who knew they had this much swag?

And oh, Ms. Piggy KILLS it as only she can.

Bob Fosse, the Remix

Posted by La-Tessa on Oct 11, 2009 in Random Musings, Virutal Concerts

Just for fun,  here’s the Mexican Breakfast routine choreographed by Bob Fosse.  It’s been sait this was Beyonce’s inspiration for her “Single Ladies” video.  So peep the original version here:

Now peep the remixed version of this same routine set to DJ Unk’s “Walk it Out”:

John Mayer Virtural Concert #1

Posted by La-Tessa on Sep 26, 2009 in Random Musings, Virutal Concerts

So, I’ve been under a rock lately finishing up my manuscript and getting it ready to send off to an editor for consideration.  So imagine my surprise when I check my FaceBook account and see that not only did I miss a John Mayer Trio performance on the Tonight’s Show recently, but they covered “California Dreaming”.  So here’s the first, of many I’m sure, John Mayer virtual concerts– this one is dedicated to JM performances I’ve missed.

Now, back to “California Dreaming”,  I’ve had a house/club remix of this song on my Ipod for over a year now and it’s one of my jams.  I keep it handy at work, because sometimes a good party song helps to destress  the situation. Anywho, here’s a clip of that performance.  I couldn’t find any actual video footage, so for now  it’s just audio.  Sounds like it was a great performance, I hate I missed it. (I hope this song is on the new album)

So, another thing I found today,  as I was perusing my Facebook page,  is that John  premiered  his new single, “Who Says” on his website today.  And, just because it’s me, I couldn’t get the preview thingy to work.  However, I did find a slightly burry video of him performing this song live, so I’ve added it below.  My impressions of the song? I think it’s a fun/folksy song that reminds me a bit of “Stop This Train”.  Some people may get all bent out of shape by the lyrics in the chorus, but if you actually listen to the song, I think you’ll get what he’s saying.  But like all art, lyrics are subjective and open to interpretation–which is one of the reasons why I’m a fan of great lyricists.  You’ll be amazed at what you find if you actually listen to what people are singing or rapping about.  Anywho, that’s a tangent for another day.  Here’s John:

And to round out my JM virtual concert of performances I’ve missed (because I’d been under a rock) here’s John performing on David Letterman for his 2008 Thanksgiving show.  Apparently, he’s been on Dave’s show for the past 4 Thanksgiving’s!!

And I’ve missed them all!!

Oh well, can you guess what I will be watching this year on Thanksgiving’s  Day night??  Enjoy John singing “In The Wee Small Hours” featuring Chris Botti.
