I thought it’d be nice to take the girls to the Cooper Young Arts festival today to get a little exposure to the arts in Memphis. Since I had a couple of hours to kill until my son got home, we headed out. It was a nice day– the sun was out, but it wasn’t too hot, and the crowd was managable.

So, you never really know what you gonna get on a nice day in Cooper Young. I present to you exhibit A. Loved his outfit, I hesitate to call it a costume just cos you never know… This could be every day attire for all I know- LOL.
This was the first thing the caught my eye when we got there
. Literally, he was in the first set of tents– primo location.

He has some really pretty pieces and the camera doesn’t do the subtle color and light play justice on some of them. Of course I picked up one… I couldn’t resist. I mean it’s a wonder I left there with only one. (I had to exert all of my self-discipline to accomplish this feat, just let me tell you). And I picked up a cute one for me, and of course it’s blue

One of the reasons I wanted to go to the festival, and why I like to get jewelry from artists, is that I like having a few unique, signature pieces– something I won’t see on anyone else. As we were leaving, I was really bummed because I didn’t see anything that spoke to me. But on my way out I passed this one artist selling copper jewelry. This was significant to me for a few reasons, one of which being I’ve been looking for some nice copper pieces for about a year, so I quickly paid her a visit.
When I saw these, I knew I was going to get them. And even though they are nearly the same color as my hair
they really look good on. Plus the artist (Perfect Piece) is super nice and super friendly. She’s really into her craft and I liked that about her. Each piece is hand craft, unique (she doesn’t replicate), and named. Yes, my new earrings have a name! And no, I’m not sharing it
.
Well, the girls and I had a ton fun during our Girls Time today. Even visited the used bookstore and went shopping (yes, we’re nerds like that)

This March, I decided I wanted to to take some professional photos as a birthday gift to myself. I don’t have any pictures of me that are less than 10 years old. Ridiculous, I know, but I don’t like taking pictures and try to get out of taking them whenever I can. (Though you probably can’t tell it from all my FaceBook pics, but I promised I was coerced into 80% of them-lol).
Why am I like this? Who knows, I’ve just never felt I was particularly photogenic so I don’t usually rush towards the camara. But being that I turned 36 years young this year, I decided I wanted to have a nice set of photos of myself. So I got my friend, photographer Maria Benton, to do a photoshoot. Just let me tell you, that was an adventure.
I don’t think anyone would ever call me timid by any means, but I really am shy in front of camaras; especially when I’m the focal point. But Maria’s a professional and is VERY patient (I can’t stress the patient part enough-lol). The photoshoot shoot went very smoothly and I’m happy with the results.
We’re still in the finalization phase, but here’s a peek at how the session went.

And I happily went along for that ride, trust me.
The hubby & I went to seeTakers today and I gotta say, it not only exceeded my expectations, it BLEW them out of the water.
I’ve had this movie on my radar since last year. And I’ll admit it, I was drawn to it more so for the cast than the actual plotline.
And no, not just because I find 5 of the 6 stars to be quite the epitome of hotness in their own way. (I’ll let you guess as to the one that didn’t make the cut); but I was really very interested in how this cast of actors (none really known as the ”Leading Man”–I know some may note Paul Walker has been cast in leading roles several times, but Paul’s acting in said movies is real borderline IMO in those earlier movies) could/would pull off the feat of carrying this movie.
Well, they did an excellent job IMO.
The story is good and compelling for the characters, the action is hot (the chase scene involving Chris Brown’s character was truely some unique, acrobatic stuff for the genre), the acting is more than decent all around (that darn T.I. played his character to the hilt. Ghost is a baaaaaad man, I’m telling ya); and the actual direction is pretty good. There is one scene in particular (I won’t ruin it for those that have not scene it yet) that was quite beautifully done. For those that have seen the movie, I will only say it involved Michael Ealy and Chris Brown.
Now, was it the more original and best written story ever? No, but it was good and I enjoyed it.
Was I able to call a few of the plot twists well in advance? Yes, but I never could figure out exactly how it was going to in. In fact, I called one within the first 5 mins. Of course, the hubby gave me the side eye, but I was right.
Could there have been more character development? Yes. I, for one, would have loved a bit more about Hayden’s character. They only scratched the surface with him and I needed more. I would have also like a bit more on the history of the crew, where they came from and how they came to be.
Overall, I have to give it 5 stars (which is predominately inspired by all the pure male hotness contained within this film), or 4.75 at the very least. I hope the actors involved are able to parlay their performances in Takers into bigger roles in the future. Michael Ealy and Idris Elba really shined in this one. I also enjoyed what Jay Hernandez brought to the table. He was a good balance to Matt Dillon’s character.
I heard the creators have a prequel in mind. I hope they get it done.

It is COLD outside. And no, I don’t care if weather we’re experiencing here in the south is nothing compared to what the plains or the north sees in the winter. I really don’t. I’m a southerner and we’ve been hovering around the 30′s (on a good day) for a couple of weeks now, and in the teen’s (on the bad ones).
So when it get’s this cold, I have to pull out Wolverine:

Wolverine, as named by one of my good friends, is the one of the hats I purchased while visiting NY last year in February (like a nut, talk about cold– that visit was downright painful at times, but I had a blast!!) Wolverine was very good to me in NY and initially, I didn’t want to buy him because I knew I would never have a need for a fur trimmed hat with ear flaps in the the south.
Boy was I wrong!
Wolverine has been getting steady action for well over a week now. And I’m happy to report that I’ve not seen anything that even looks like my beloved Wolverine when I’m out and about. Oh, I get stares, trust me, but I really don’t care. My head is nice & warm and the cold wind is not blowing into my ears (which is quite painful).

I was visiting a friend’s blog today and came across this quiz. Curious, I took it. I am not surprise at the results at all:

You are Elizabeth Bennet of Pride & Prejudice! You are intelligent, witty, and tremendously attractive. You have a good head on your shoulders, and oftentimes find yourself the lone beacon of reason in a sea of ridiculousness. You take great pleasure in many things. You are proficient in nearly all of them, though you will never own it. Lest you seem too perfect, you have a tendency toward prejudgement that serves you very ill indeed.
Take the Quiz here!
